Seeds and Time

Imagine going to a farmland to plant seeds and after planting, someone (let’s say someone that was planting in another farmland close-by) decides to start an argument with you about the seeds you’ve planted. The person says, 

“You just finished planting beans, huh?” 

And you’re like, “No, I planted corn grains!” 

But the person refuses to believe you. 

“I was watching you, from a distance though, but not too far to notice you were planting beans.” 

“No you’re wrong. You were obviously very far away, because I wasn’t planting beans. I was planting and just finished planting grains of corn.” 

“No! You didn’t plant corn!” insists the person. 

What would you do? What would you do, if Planting beans was an offense in that area? Ignore the person? Keep insisting? Dig up some of the seeds to prove your point? Let’s even assume you won’t be able to access the farmland anymore until harvest season; now, what would you do?

You don’t have to argue about the seeds you’ve planted… time will reveal your seeds to all

Few weeks ago, I did something and I didn’t know I was misunderstood by someone, and before I knew it other people got to hear about what I did according to the narrative of the person who misunderstood me. So I didn’t just have one person who was angry and worried about what I did. I had different persons who were angry, worried and concerned. When I knew about their anger, worry and concerns, I felt really bad. I blamed myself for doing what I did in the first place, even when I knew my intentions were very pure. I wished I could take back the hands of time and just erase the entire memory. I tried to explain the intentions of my action, but deep down  in my heart I just felt my explanation didn’t do much, because the feedback I got wasn’t consoling.

I kept myself enclosed in the box of worry…but thank God I was wise enough  to get God into my box. When I invited my Abba into my box, I realized He didn’t need an invite because He was already there with me and was just waiting  for me to acknowledge His presence. His first words  to me were, 

 “You think so much of yourself.” 

“How?” I wondered, “This is my reputation at stake here. Am I suppose to just ignore the fact that I was misunderstood?” 

But God wasn’t going to have me believe my worry was valid. I heard clearly in my spirit,

“You already explained yourself. Let it go. You don’t have to bother about what happens after that. You can’t explain yourself enough to change what people already think of you. You don’t have to argue about who you are. You don’t have to argue about your seeds. Time will eventually show the kind of seeds you planted and are planting.”

And that was it. That was my road to getting back my Peace. The Holy Spirit extended the thought. He showed me a picture of a farmer, in a farmland, trying to explain to other farmers that he didn’t plant the seeds they were saying he planted. I saw a frustrated farmer that was being laughed at and mocked by the other farmers, and he couldn’t do much to explain himself. He wasn’t able to access the area he planted the seeds because he wasn’t permitted to step into the area again, until harvest season. If he could, he would have dug the seeds from the ground, for he was that desperate to prove himself. Soon the other farmers left him alone, but held on tightly to their opinion of him. While feeling sad and angry, the farmer had an epiphany… “My seeds will grow, eventually. And then, nobody will argue and mock me anymore.” With that the farmer left happy and expectant.

Stating our intensions is okay. Saying who we are is totally fine. But, arguing about our intentions and who we are isn’t wisdom. Arguing about what we are doing with our lives isn’t a place God will have us be in. Trying to always have a good report from everyone isn’t wisdom. Trying to make sure we never make any mistakes, whenever, wherever and however is a level of bondage. Trying to make sure everyone ticks us good isn’t how we’re supposed to be living our lives. When we begin to get into trying to defend and protect ourselves by all means possible, it shows us how FULL of ourselves we are…how proud our hearts have become. It also shows us how insecure we are. 

First, living life that way is a BIG distraction. Every little thing that tries to paint you bad will be your focus. You won’t feel comfortable moving on with life, until you make the corrections you think are necessary. When the devil sees you like this, you make it easy for him. Now all he needs do is keep throwing things your way, to keep you from living the life you’re supposed to be living. Then, it also means we trust our efforts more than we trust God to come through for us. Because if we really trust God, then we’ll only play our part and leave the rest to Him. Time is in God’s hands and time will eventually reveal the kind of seeds we’re planting. Relax.

Genesis 8:22 says, “While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest…shall not cease. (AMPC) 

As I meditated on the picture the Holy Spirit showed me, I got other lessons about seeds and time. Below are other lessons that are also blessing me greatly:

Time is not ours to control, but what we harvest is ours to decide

We don’t get to control when morning comes or when the brightness of the day eventually gives way for night to step in, but we can control the harvest that comes with each season of our lives, because we have the right to choose our seeds and the ability to sow them right. 

So, what harvest do you want? What do you really want your life to look, smell, taste and feel like? What do you want people to identify you with? How do you want people to address you? When you have your answers written down (Yes, you should have your answers written down plainly and clearly), look at the harvest you’re aiming at, then find out the seeds you need to sow to get that harvest. 

“Do not be deceived…and misled; God will not allow Himself to be…scorned; disdained or mocked…He inevitably deludes himself who attempts to delude God. For whatever a man sows that and that only is what he will reap.” Galatians 6:7 (AMPC) 

If you want the “six packs harvest” then you have to sow the seeds of eating right and hitting the gym right. If you want the “good friends harvest” then you have to consciously learn to sow the seeds of authentic friendship. If you want the “clean closet  harvest” then you have to sow the seeds of orderliness. If you want people to trust you, then you have to sow the seeds of integrity. If you want to be a celebrated writer, then you have to learn the act of writing right, and write often like your life depends on it. Every bountiful harvest started as seeds. 

It’s funny what the devil does to us…he wants us to act like it, but not be it

Acting isn’t real. It’s fake. That explains why Chris Evans can be Captain America at the movies yesterday and today he’s just a frustrated writer that is trying to come up with a romance story, and tomorrow, who knows, he might show up as the bad guy everyone wants taken out. Why? The roles he plays in movies aren’t who he is. If you get the opportunity to spend real life with him for some weeks, you might begin to discover who he really is.

This is the deception the devil tries to drag us into, and he succeeds. Instead of sowing the seeds that will give us our desired harvest, we ignore the seeds and sowing and just try to fake the harvest. We try to make people see us as kind and thoughtful, but deep on our inside we know it is just a show. We try to look clean and organized when we go out, but our closet is a huge mess. Yes, if you always look organized when you’re out in public but also always go back home to a disorganized room…you’re a disorganized person. Who you are when the lights are out, when you’re behind the doors of your safe place, when no one is watching…is who you really are. Most of the seeds that gives us harvest that literally transforms our lives are seeds we sow when no one is watching.

If you love to look like it, why not just be it. If you’ll do everything to look like it on the outside, why not just do everything to look like it on the inside first? Everything we can ever get from God, including the greatest gift of all -our salvation, starts from the inside. If we don’t believe on our inside first, we won’t see the physical manifestations of God’s blessings and promises. So why allow the devil deceive you? All you need do is find the seeds that need to go under the ground, know the pattern to get them under the ground and just allow time give you your harvest. We can only fake for so long, and faking a harvest will take your peace. 

Carnal seeds can’t produce Spiritual harvest 

If we’re not sowing spiritual seeds, then we’re sowing carnal seeds. There are no in-betweens. Carnality will never be a medium that brings God’s best to you. The place of consistent prayers, consistent Bible study and always yielding to the leadership of the Holy Spirit can never be overemphasized in the life of a Christian. We can’t really have the harvest God has in store for us, if we live comfortably in the flesh. 

Please, don’t try to take this out of context. Don’t try to explain how eating and other physical activities aren’t spiritual. This is not what this is about. This is about the force we allow to rule our lives. And there are just two forces: the Kingdom of Light and the kingdom of darkness. There are no in-betweens. We can’t expect the Holy Spirit to rule our lives, when we constantly yield to the cravings of the flesh and starve our spirits.

Galatians 6: 8, makes it clear. It says, “For he who sows to his own flesh (lower nature, sensuality) will from the flesh reap decay and ruin and destruction; but he who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. (AMPC) 

Most times, we (Christians) get angry at the state and condition of our lives. We believe there are promises in the Bible that aren’t real in our lives. But what about the “seeds of consistent believing and not wavering in our faith”, no matter what? How about the seeds of “Biblical principles?” 

We can’t reap spiritual harvest when we’re always sowing carnal seeds. When you spend quality time with your favourite movie channels and say “hi” to God’s Word once every week, you can’t expect a harvest that comes with constantly spending time with God’s Word. If you don’t pray and pray in the Holy Ghost, you can’t access some dimensions in God. When you don’t allow instructions in the Bible rule your life, you limit God’s best for your life…and you can’t blame it on God. You make the choices. You sow the seeds.

What do you really want your life to look like? Make sure to sow the right seeds…and you don’t have to worry…you’ll reap your harvest, in time. 

My prayer for you and me:

May we not just have a vision of what we want our harvest to be like, may we have God’s vision of what our harvest should look like. May we sow right, and may we be so secured in God’s love, and may that make us never have to bother about what anyone, any demon, or even the devil thinks, says or does. In Jesus’ name…Amen.
