Eat Life

You should ask a dietician and you will get the truth. The truth is what you let pass through your mouth into your stomach determines how healthy you are. If we don’t drink enough water we’ll not stay hydrated. If we don’t consume fruits and vegetables, we’ll never understand the vitamins our bodies are missing. That’s the truth.

The truth also extends to the point where we have to understand that it is not just about the “what” but also about how much of the “what” and how consistent we are with the “what.” It will do you almost no good if you declare a day, “fruit eating day” and then stay far away from fruits for several other months ahead. To get the desired healthy results in our bodies, we have to pay close attention to the things we eat, when we eat them, how much we eat them, and how often we eat them.

We also have to understand that eating healthy is one of the major responsibilities we owe ourselves and everyone connected to us. We don’t just gift ourselves when we eat healthy; we also gift our loved ones and friends. If we fall ill and maybe can’t get by on our own, our loved ones and friends will be engulfed with emotions that aren’t friendly to the human body. So, you owe it to yourself and to everyone in your tribe, to stay healthy.

It is the same with our Mind

The way our body response to things we eat is the way our mind response to things we see, read and listen to. This is also the truth. If you spend time looking, reading and watching things that teach financial literacy, your mind will capture and store pictures of things that teach financial literacy. And guess what the mind will do with those images? The mind will make those images control your life. You’ll find yourself questioning everything about your finances. You won’t want to spend money without asking yourself critical financial questions. And if for any reason you decide to still spend carelessly, you’ll find yourself feeling guilty. Your mind won’t let you handle your finances without seeing the “money information” you’ve stored in it. That is how powerful the mind is.

God knows the mind is this powerful; He created the mind after all. So, when the Holy Spirit inspired Paul to write a letter to the Romans about the power of the mind, that was God drawing our attention to something that is very important. God knew the letter will be added to the Bible and that the Bible will live, long enough, for all His dear children to read and benefit from.

Paul in Romans 12:1-2 says. “I appeal to you therefore, brethren, and beg of you in view of {all} the mercies of God, to make a decisive dedication of your bodies—presenting all your members and faculties—as a living sacrifice, holy (devoted, consecrated) and well pleasing to God, which is your reasonable (rational, intelligent) service and spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world—this age, fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs. But be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind—by its new ideals and its new attitude—so that you may prove [for yourselves] what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His sight for you].

Here are some things about the above scripture that speaks, so loud, to me:

  • Our bodies (not spirits) are living sacrifice to God, and that includes our sense organs, because the above scripture says “all our members and faculties.”
  • Conforming and transforming lies in the mind.
  • To transform, we need to renew our minds.
  • To renew our minds we have to change the ideas that are in it and the attitude that comes out of it.
  • When we renew our mind towards God’s direction, we don’t just know His general will for all Christians, we also know His specific will for our lives.

You are what you feed your mind

Who do you admire so much? For me it’s not just one person, I have (a little bit) more than a handful.  If you were to live out the life of a Bible character, which will that be? For me, that would be St. Paul. I just love his audacity and how he used it to win Big for the kingdom. I want to believe you have your own role models and Bible “crushes.” Now the question is “Do you think they fed or feed their minds with what you’re feeding yours?”

Then, let’s never forget that as Christian everything we become and do is, ultimately, towards one focus…Jesus. We should want to be like Jesus. We should spend our time feeding our minds with things that keep us close to Jesus. We shouldn’t feed our minds with things that oppose the Holy Spirit that is in us, because it is the Holy Spirit that helps us to focus and keep focusing on Jesus. If the Holy Spirit says to let go of it, then let go.

But, what if i don’t have “checks” from the Holy Spirit? Now that’s a BIG problem, because it means you’ve not trained your mind to be sensitive to the Holy Spirit. As a Christian, every now and again, the Holy Spirit should be telling you what is right for you to feed on and what you shouldn’t feed on. If that is not your experience, you need to go to God and ask Him to help you open your heart to the Holy Spirit. It’s that simple. If you ask, God will grant you your heart desires.

Being like Jesus is God’s desire for each and every one of us. God wants us to walk as Jesus walked (SEE 1 John 2: 6); only the Holy Spirit is here to make us do it in a greater way (SEE John 14:12). If being like Jesus is the ultimate standard then how much of Him are you? How much of His goodness flows through you to your world? How much of His wisdom do you have access to? Do you have the same power that quickened His dead body to life in your own life?

It all begins with what you allow your mind to capture and store in its shelves. Any thought that tells you, “it doesn’t matter what you feed your mind” is not from God, it is from the pit of hell. You are what you watch, read and listen to. You are what you let settle in your mind. You are what your mind eats. Deliberately allow your mind…EAT LIFE.

My prayer for you and me:

One of the struggles I have in my walk with God is letting go, when the Holy Spirit says to cut off. But not anymore, I have decided to surrender immediately and quickly. No more delayed obedience. I believe God’s Grace is more than enough to help. So, I pray for you too. I pray that this post will always be remembered for our decisions to, once and for all, surrender what we feed our mind to the Holy Spirit, Him and Him alone. In Jesus’s name…Amen.
